You’re invited to our live “Artist at work” event
The time has come for our artist in residence, Jess Le Clerc to place the final piece in our art puzzle: an intricate artwork in our ground floor lobby. Join us 13-16 April when she creates the painting live for your eyes.
It has taken many, many hours for Jess and her team of artists to concept, create and paint the series of incredible wall murals and artworks found throughout our new hotel. And soon, the collection will be complete, with the creation of the final artwork to grace our walls.
Jess will be wielding her brush here one last time to transform the length of one wall in our lobby facing out to Darling Harbour. She will be using Winsor & Newton oil paints in her ultra realistic style to capture the essence of Sydney at dusk, inspired by famous 1800s Romantic painter, William Turner.
“The narrative of the work is that artists telling stories in public spaces still exists,” says Jess. “The masters of days gone by would travel to and sit in the environment they painted, much like I will be painting dusk in Sydney at dusk in Sydney.”
“Turner also worked with Winsor & Newton oil paints in the 1800s, and artists today still use the same supplies the masters used to use.”
“Travel and art have a lot in common. Art has a way of bringing beauty in from people and makes life deeper. I believe the same can be said about the experience of travel,” says Jess.
